Around 845 BC, Bladud, son of King Lud, contracted leprosy. His father banished him and he became a pig farmer. One day he saw his pigs rolling in hot thick mud to clean themselves. He did the same and his leprosy disappeared ; in gratitude he built a temple near the hot springs and founded the city of Bath.
